Septimus is unfamiliar with this work, so he doesn't know what trope applies here. Posting on the discussion page is meant to find someone who is more familiar with it.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. What is the difference between Crimson Echoes and Flames of Eternity.
Hide / Show RepliesReferences to Bleach, Gurren Lagann, and Naruto are either replaced with Final Fantasy references or are removed entirely. Those references were based on scenes that inspired bits of ZeaLitY's beliefs.
Also, the Multiple Endings are removed. I forget why, but I think I remember asking Giro about that. I might ask him later.
Development-wise, the developers of CE have absolutely no connection to FoE, and have in fact criticized it for various things. I'll copy-paste their post on Reddit here:
Just a note from the creators, this is not endorsed by them. The Flames of Eternity team has poorly rewritten dialogue and made other changes that have ruined several key scenes and characters (e.g. giving Agent 12 an unreadable, unnecessary Swedish accent). This is definitely not Crimson Echoes as it was meant to be played, and it's also been saddled with extraneous music and mp3s that use the ZSNES plugin. It's like a poor RPGMaker hack in that regard; the original would have had SPC hacks and would have kept the experience down to an .ips file in the spirit of true ROM hacking. The creators also debugged over 2,000 bugs after the alpha build used for FoE was created; the FoE team has had to try and do the same with a fourth of the team working off the CE Memorial's Youtube videos. The FoE team has even displayed an antagonistic stance towards the creators (because of their compliance with the C&D); they aren't the best ones to handle CE's legacy.
Still, most of the experience is intact, so have fun. You can see it as it was more intended by hitting the CE Memorial.

Perhaps the FoE devs would have done the same thing if the CE devs had shared how to do this with them?

Teaching others to do that would violate the C&D.

The host of a little watched web show that explores bad tv episodes. That's assuming the C&D is real. For one, I kinda doubt it, since last I checked, FoE hasn't yet come under fire for being a third-party remake of CE, outside of the fact that some of CE's better parts can't be replicated without guidance from the people responsible.
Has anyone ever tried calling the number on the bottom right of the Crimson Echoes cease and desist? It seems like it would be very easy to determine whether it was a phony or not by doing that...
@sotrain
Good luck actually getting a hold of them, and besides, if the original C&D was fake, and it turns out SE doesn't like CE, then all we do is shoot ourselves in the foot, and probably get FoE shut down as well.

I contacted Giro about the leaked mostly-complete beta soon after I discovered it, and he confirmed that it was NOT the 98%, but rather the 95%, the missing 3% being a number of bugs such as a loop in the Frog Catching Game, various bugs in Glenn's Ending (beat the game before recruiting Glenn in 605 AD), and a bunch of other bugs that are already being found by players and fixed by Giro and his bunch.
Hide / Show RepliesYeah, I noticed that some of the music that I was really looking forward to (Requiem by Mythos being one such tune, meant to be played in the Darkness Beyond Time) wasn't in this... Hopefully he'll add 'em in! :-)
Edited by WindraysUhh, the non-CT music wasn't added in the 98% beta either IIRC, but rather they were added between FW recording them and them being posted on You Tube as The Month That Could Have Been.
IIRC, those parts were recorded without music in-game, and they mixed other music over the audio in those parts of the video.
Cleaned up all of the comments trying to portray the story of the C&D as true. This has never been proven and legitimate rom hackers have never stopped calling it into question.
Hide / Show RepliesPerhaps, but you also took out a very large portion of things that had NOTHING to do with the C&D (Schala Lives and The Scrappy Level were just two, I'm still looking and fixing). Take more care with your edits next time.
A lot of those were taken out due to being not the tropes they were claimed to be. For example, Schala Lives is about urban legends - whereas, in this case, Schala being alive is not a rumor. The Scrappy Level stuff is YMMV - apparently pages under the Fan Fic category aren't correctly marking all the YMMV stuff. To be fair, I should have made a YMMV page for it, though I don't know if the Fan Fic category indexes them correctly.
Of course it is. Things like The Scrappy Level are going to be YMMV no matter what, haha. ;-)
I say just leave the YMMV categories as they are for now.
Rumor has it that Flames Of Eternity is nearing completion. I don't know what the completion rate is yet, but that's what I've heard.

My Name Is Not Durwood is no longer a trope. Please readd under a correct trope.
