- The idea that putting a Final Boss at the end of a game would make it feel too much like a video game and less like a story (which is why there was no Final Boss at the end of Mass Effect 3 and Bioshock Infinite) was torn to shreds by the Wachowski sisters themselves in a fourth-wall breaking interruption at the end of The Matrix: Path of Neo where they explain that:
Lilly Wachowski: ...at this point, it's Martyr time. Now that may work in a movie, but in a video game, the Jesus thing is, well... Lana Wachowski: Lame. Lilly Wachowski: Really lame.
- They then explain that the player is probably expecting a boss fight against some sort of giant monster Smith. Which is exactly what they're giving the player.
Quick question: Since when Path of Neo was Trope Codifier, let alone Trope Maker for Final Boss? Hide / Show Replies
