Even though it says one example per trope, are we allowed to add an alternative to our example? One Troper had added Aigis for Robot Girl, while adding the alternative as Kos-Mos.
Edited by Mattman_the_StorytellerSo are all example submissions allowed, even if they aren't actual representations of the trope at all. For example, let's say a user decides to submit Spongebob Squarepants as an example of a Big Bad. Would that example be allowed to stay or would it be removed?
Or, say someone submits a character as an example of a Complete Monster, but then character gets brought up on the CM Discussion Board and its determined that the character isn't a CM. Would that character be allowed to stay if the user still believes the character counts as a CM?
Just imagine something here.Is there an opposite to this, some sort of least triumphant or most sucky example? Could have sworn there used to be, but maybe not.
Hide / Show RepliesGiven suckiness can only apply to the Bad Writing Index and attract lots of potential complaining, I don't think such examples are/will be allowed.
No different than the Dethroning Moment Of Suck - except to Tropes and not Works.
Just out of curiosity, before I try to share any opinions... What is the policy on tropers changing their minds? There's only one example per user, which is understandable. But, say I put in an entry on Trope X using Show Y, for whatever reasons I see fit. But say later I end up watching another show, Z, which I think uses the trope more interestingly or outstandingly, and decide that Show Y's example is no longer the "most triumphant" one in my view. Would I be able to retract my "vote" and cast it for my new opinion? In short, is my first vote entirely binding? I can't imagine it would be, but I'm just perhaps overly paranoid.
Hide / Show RepliesIf someone's posted an example which technically is NOT an example, would it be okay to remove it? Someone stated "Winter's Bone has been called Jennifer Lawrence's feature-length audition for The Hunger Games." under Stealth Sequel, when the film was neither a Sequel nor related to the Hunger Games.
I do know what I'm doing. What I don't know is why. Hide / Show RepliesYes. Trope misuse is a reason for removal.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow come there isn't a "Most Triumphant Example" link on most tropes just like there is a link for "Playing With" or "Analysis"?
Hide / Show RepliesBecause this article doesn't get trope-specific subpages.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow come there's no Most Triumphant Example for Nice Guy?
Edited by 36.233.25.147 Hide / Show RepliesBecause nobody added one. Feel free to add an item.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIs it okay to nuke unsigned examples and YMMV tropes while I'm here editing anyway?
Edited by InsanityPrelude Hide / Show RepliesYes to the first, maybe to the second. That may need clarification in Ask The Tropers.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Tear Jerker doesn't deserve to have a Most Triumphant Example because it's an opinion-based trope...
Should we start limiting the number of entries as MT Es? Some listings are getting a little bloated. (Such as Badass, which currently has 28 selections.)
Hide / Show RepliesI don't think it's necessary, but even if I did, it's one per person per trope. How would we limit it any further? First five people to get their nominations in get to have them on the page? Doesn't seem fair.
Maybe a massive MTE reboot every five or ten years where all examples are erased so the examples people have forgotten about don't build up? Maybe every 15 years..
Um, this wiki is less than ten years old...
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Shouldn't there be a YMMV tab for MT Es relating to subjective tropes? I didn't see any flame wars or controversy regarding those, and I saw quite a few signed examples.
It's kinda unsettling that 70% of the examples come from Anime... Not bashing anime, but most of the examples are from fairly obscure shows. But you can only see "Blah blah Neon Genesis Evangelion" for so long before you begin to yearn for examples from Live-Action TV or Western Animation.
I TELL YOU HWAT!Umm...the X Just X wasn't being used as a qualifier, it was poking fun at how people tend to (wrongly) emphasize their MTIs. Completely Missing The Point?
