"Hugo Chávez once made a speech to Venezuela that lasted for... 9 hours and 28 minutes." how is this an example...?
Hide / Show RepliesI am guessing... he repeated himself frequently?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanShould the city park in Park City, Utah (the Park City City Park) be mentioned? It's not really a redundancy.
Hide / Show RepliesThen it shouldn't be mentioned.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I'd be a pedant on "ID card". Not all documents are in card-form, nor cards "documents". For that matter, not all IDs are cards, as they certainly weren't in "May I see your papers please" Nazi Germany.
Edited by BMeph Hide / Show RepliesAlso, the NASCAR example: A 'car' could be non-automotive. And an automobile doesn't need to be a car.
Certain names such as Paraguay river aren't so redundant since Paraguay is the place the river is located.
And the Los Angeles Angels...Los Angeles is accurately "The City of The Angels". There could easily be other sports teams named "The Angels" which don't come from "The City of The Angels".
On that topic, NFL Football is football hosted by the National Football League, as opposed to a specific city's High School football league or even a single school-district's football league.
A lot of the examples follow these lines of thought and so aren't as redundant as assumed.

And as evidence to B Meph's position (to make this not be marked as natter)— My facebook page, my college application forms, my sheet music and short stories, my clothes, the pictures in my attic...they all identify me. They are all I Ds to some extent.
I was about to ask if I could remove NASCAR, since it's possible to be either a "car" or an "auto" without being the other (one segment of a train for the former, a pickup truck for the latter). If there are no objections, I'll remove that example.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.
I've lived in DC all my life, and frequently use the Metro, and I've never seen or heard Union Station addressed like this, not even by WMATA themselves. Permission to remove?
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."
