As someone who came from an abusive home, I hated the fact that The Doctor and Rose basically told the abused kid to hang onto his father and help him out. Sometimes, a "non-broken" family isn't the best kind; toxic relationships need to be let go of.

I think it had something to do with the fact that Rose grew up without knowing her father, so she doesn't have that sort of experience. If the kid really thought his dad wasn't worthy of forgiveness, he could have told her to bug off.
On a more frivolous note, I thought the Doctor's hairstyle was atrocious. But does it deserve being mentioned as a trope?
