If the vaccine just removes diclonii genes is it really genocide as it is claimed undee kill 'em all? I mean, they aren't being killed, just born as humans. Would a vaccine that prevents autism by removing the genetic mutations that cause them be a genocide?
I have to disagree with the shoot the shaggy dog description: the ending of diclonii (through a vaccine or gene therapy) and the people attempting to weaponize them means quite a lot of progress has been made in that area at least. In addition to a lack of war between humans and diclonii, people don't have to worry about having children with uncontrollable mutant powers likely to kill them if the child isn't killed first (regardless of the cause or intent, that kind of power in the hands of a toddler throwing a tantrum has to be dangerous) and presumably there won't be an arms race to weaponize diclonius powers or purposefully breed them as weapons of war or anything. Instead those people will have a chance at a normal life, and maybe the next time something causes people to evolve deadly powers prior to cognitive thought, humanity will be better prepared for it. All in all, it seems more like a number of potentially world-ending crises were avoided. Rather than a lot of pointless deaths, they served the purpose of helping to resolve the conflict over exploiting diclonius powers and the urgency caused by deaths of civilians at the hands of diclonii highlighted the urgency of the need for a method of treatment or prevention, possibly speeding it up.
