I think medical degree is a bad example in the intro, because the English speaking world for a long time has expected, and now certain medical specialties rely on, specifically recruiting students right out of foreign medical school to immigrate and fill their residency places in US
hospitals. Likewise, UK 40% of medical specialists in the UK graduated from outside the UK. Other than academia, I think medicine is, in fact, one of the worst examples.
