I think the example from Star Trek First Contact is an example of Chekovs Gun, but not of this trope, so I would delete it. However, I don't want to be rude, thus I put it in discussion first.
I'd also dispute the Big Dig as an exampleof this trope. The actual idea and conceptual designs were solid, and someone in 1995 would never have said is was likely to be a big boondoggle. Cost escalations.were.due.to both unforeen problems with a project this big, plus the usual Boston corruption. Plus 4 deaths over a 15 years for a project of this size is not unexpected. And the final result is.actually pretty.much.as imagined. I'd hardly call it an example of things.going according to plan, but its not.the trainwreck that this trope.implies.
