I personally think so, it's starting to develop into its own Genre and gained noteriaty to the point that the recent show "Re:zero" is considerd by some to be a deconstrucion of it.

Would Pharoah from Yu-Gi-Oh be considered an example of this trope in a similar manner that Fry from Futurama and Samurai Jack is? Since he is stuck in a time period far into the future?

Just for fun - apparently isekai stories have become so common, one light novel contest in Japan felt the need to ban them. Another contest ended and, well... check out some of these "winners"

Should Traped in an RPG "Isekai" be split out into its own Sub-trope?
