Is there a separate trope for Japan's stigma? I noticed there are no anime references here, and Japan has if anything a BIGGER stigma about "love" than America. In fact, in the past a famous individual who translated a lot of English works into Japanese struggled with expressions of love because the words were so uncommonly used. He eventually decided to place "the moon is beautiful" in many/most of those spots instead, and to this day "the moon is beautiful" is a sort of euphemism for "I love you" in Japan.
