I beg to differ on this trope, I feel that browsing around this website has given me a more interesting way to look at films.

And whatever you do, do not join the TV Tropes Forum thinking you can be an "occasional poster". If TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life, the addictive forum will prove you never had one to begin with.

I didn't even get to the addiction part of being a forum poster, where do I get my money back?

The entire internet is exactly like this, not just tvtropes.org.

Irony. It hurts. While wiki-walking TV Tropes, I came across an article referencing Cracked.com, and began multiple tab browsing there, and at http://www.cracked.com/article_20202_6-hilariously-failed-attempts-at-making-comics-more-diverse.html I found a reference to TV Tropes ruining your life. So I'm back.

Please help me...

Shouldn't "cliché" in the main article say "clichéd"?

Is it bad that at the "tab explosion" image at the bottom I know most of them?

I realised TV Tropes had conquered my life on the day when, during the discussion of a movie, I quoted the title of a page in the assumption that the other person knew what the hell I was talking about.

A similar phenomenon happens with music appreciation: you begin to enjoy some songs much more, while other songs lose their appeal. You learn to appreciate the complexities of jazz or really interesting chord progressions*, then get annoyed at every pop song's use of 1-5-6-4. Would this be worth mentioning on the page?

  • for one of my favorite examples: Danny Elfman's This Is Halloween

I suspect that is more akin to Ear Worm. I don't think it's related tough - there is a difference between liking something and spending time obsessively on it.

I read this website for 8 hours today. The sad part was that 80% of the tropes I already read.

HELP ME

I propose changing "7+ hour" to "16+ hour" because I and several others have been on this site continuously for 16-20 hours at a time before.

Buddy, right at this moment in time, my wife is supremely pissed that I've been on here almost continuously for more than two weeks - to include 20+ hour days EVERY day. I haven't done something this retarded since I was in the Army and didn't have a choice.

Aug 29th 2014 at 5:05:54 PM •••

How about you compromise and make it 12+ hours?

Jan 29th 2013 at 2:11:28 AM •••

I'd like to add that if you hit the "random page" option and it takes you to a page you've already read - forget it, your life is over.

Averted (or is it Subverted?) with me, I am in full control of all the Tropes I read.

That's what they want you to think.

I have probably averted this trope, but seriously. I started with one tab, and ended up with 22. Gosh dang it to heck!

It's Administrivia. It's the sort of thing only the guys upstairs can edit.

Jan 29th 2013 at 2:12:46 AM •••

I wish those guys upstairs would turn down their music. I'm trying to trope!

Amazon.com does this, but with it's WISHLIST button.... Tell me you haven't gone to Amazon.com, wishlisted something... Then saw something you liked in their "customers also bought..." section and tabbed all five of those... And so on and so forth.

I'm going through the playstation 1 section right now... And I still have 60+ tabs to go...

Looking at my other window... I've got another 30 tabs for TV Tropes.org... Half of them left up from yesterday....

SOMEONE SAVE ME!

Should I be scared that, in the linked image at the bottom, I was able to specifically identify the open window as the relevant Crowning Moment of Heartwarming page?

I admit, this has more to do with the fact that I know the named Next Generation episode than with my familiarity with CMOH pages, but.

Damn straight.

I am not that concerned with actual tropes in media, you'd be a wally if you hadn't noticed them (i.e. most horror films - cutest girl lives, randiest girls die roughly in order of how quickly they get undressed). Problem is, this bloody site. So I'm reading about being a Cloudcuckoolander and thinking it sounds like me on a good day. And I see something interesting so I open it in a new tab. And then here;s something else. And something else. And horrid horrid Firefox is able to quit and save my open tabs for later. I now have to turn off Wi Fi when reloading Firefox so the poor thing doesn't spend two minutes reloading everything. Whinge! Wail! Woe is me! Wanna know what TV Tropes did to My So-Called Life?

[ps: as I have not created for myself a user profile, you cannot contact me, thus I shall point out that this is sardonic sarcasm, in case you somehow managed to miss that]
