I think this trope should be renamed "Every Other Installment Wins" or something similar. The current name doesn't really tell anything about the idea and could be easily misconstrued to be only about Star Trek
In my opinion, this is what I used to think about the main Pokémon games until Gen. 5 broke the “odd numbers are weaker” streak. However, I understand if anyone felt disappointed by the generations afterwards (despite liking the X version myself).
