Conflict sucks, for the most part. It worked for stuff like Star Wars or any of the movies from the Disney Animated Canon, but it's just obnoxious in stuff like teen soaps or reality television, but if it happens on reality TV, it's beyond anyone's control, though.

Disagree? Too bad. I call it as I see it.

Okay, not sure what you're trying to accomplish with the passive aggressive "Too bad. I call it as I see it," (generally speaking, trying to pick an anonymous internet fight is bad around here) but you're arguing against pretty much the backbone of all stories ever.

You don't have a plot without conflict, at least not an interesting plot. All you'd have is a sequence of events happening one after the other.

I said it worked for Star Wars and the Disney Animated Canon, stuff I actually like, and I HATE most dramas, especially angsty ones. I have nothing against the tropes themselves.

I apologize for my rash statement, but I like stuff like that, as well as several comedies. If I were to watch anything dramatic, it would have to either be a light drama, something witty, or a Dramedy.

Drama? If you haven't watched those couple-hundred episodes long series known as Taiwan Dramas, then obviously you do NOT know what drama is. Characters having little common sense, making Face Heel Turn, Heel Face Turn and lots of Magnificent Bastard Up To Eleven, and The Plan, Black and Gray Morality among others, I'm not surprised if they hook you in and make you squirm in anticipation. Most of the time, the good guys either die, got Amnesia, or became gray/evil. And the Big Bad is like a hydra, one dies, another pops up.

I WANT MORE DAKKA HERE DAMNIT!!!

Yeah, we have all of that in every single other medium too. Taiwan Dramas are not unique, and I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by talking them up as the best thing ever.

People conflate the terms Drama and Tragedy, thinking the former means the latter.

If it is people pretending to be someone else to tell a story, it's Drama.

What's up with this image?

While I'm sure there's probably some event in Rose of Versailles that justifies this image... It doesn't suggest Rule of Drama to me. I don't think this concept can be expressed with an image alone, in any case.

I reject your requirement for a witty statement or fanboyish squealing in my signature. Hide / Show Replies

Tolstoi famously expressed the Rule of Drama as follows (Anna Karenina):

All happy families resemble one another, but each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.
