Since this trope doesn't have a "Playing With" page, let's figure out a few things: apparently this trope is subverted if a family actually does send the dog to a farm. What would it be if the family sends the dog to a farm, only to have it die (say, hit by a car) shortly after arriving at the farm?

From the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann entry because it isn't true. If there were such a thing as notability I'd note stuff from The Other Wiki like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_birth#Causes_and_frequency or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_triplets
In Going Postal, some of the older wizards "go on sabbatical", during which they are dead...for a certain value of dead. They manifest as disembodied voices kept in literal Soul Jars (we don't know if their souls are in there, but they are jars). They can be brought back to life at a few days' notice, and may be talked to at any time.
So, what does that count as?
