I was just thinking the same thing. They also aren't predators, so it doesn't even reference the name of the trope.

Although not all examples are literal predators, but yes, we should find one that reflects the trope name better.

Funnily enough, upon searching the web for a more fitting image, the best one I found also features a Killer Gorilla: King Kong protecting Ann Darrow from a dinosaur◊. However, I think it's better, because unlike real gorillas, Kong is hostile to humans.

I am not sure whether Jambo the gorilla is the right choice for depicting the trope. Despite the Killer Gorilla stereotype, gorillas are rarely hostile with humans, so Jambo guarding the human child is not a straight example of this trope.
