It occurs to me that if American, European, and Japanese Power Metal are indeed rather stylistically different that it may be a good idea to mark the bands listed as such or even split them like some of the other metal pages do for their subcategories.
Rocking you like a hadoken. Hide / Show RepliesI'm still a bit new with this kind of thing, so if we (as a group of tropers here) agree upon it, should I go to the Trope Repair Shop, or just do it myself?
Rocking you like a hadoken.Don't be afraid to just go for it, if people don't like what you did, the most they can do is edit it to how they want.
Well, the first draft of a region categorized list of bands is up.
Rocking you like a hadoken.Do we really have to have the page quote be from a Dragon Force song? Wouldn't, say, Helloween be more appropriate? They helped create the genre, after all.
Hide / Show RepliesI concur, Dragon Force is not the first thing I think of when I listen to Power Metal , they're just the most, uh, visual band of the genre.
(And they're not that great too.)
Helloween would definitely be more appropriate than DragonForce, although I don't think we absolutely need a page quote (I suppose it brightens up the page). For some reason, I think some lyrics from Blind Guardian would be even more appropriate as the page quote.
On a related note; if Power Metal and Black Metal have page quotes, would it be a good idea for the other subgenre pages to have them?
last.fm | RYMI'd go with Rhapsody's "For the king, for the land, for the mountains, for the green valleys where dragons fly, for the glory, for power to win the Dark Lord, I will search for the Emerald Sword" ;)
"Atheism is the religion whose followers are easiest to troll"I vote for something from Blind Guardian too, but that may be partly because I'm a diehard fan. I'll try to find some good lines.
OK, I looked at the lyrics. How about something from "Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill)"? "Lord of all Noldor / Star in the night / And a bearer of hope / He rides into his glorious battle alone / Farewell to the valiant warlord." Or "He gleams like a star / And the sound of his horn's / Like a raging storm. / Proudly the high lord challenges the doom..."
They're both nicely power metal-ish.
OK, I'll change it to the first one from "Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill)". If anyone dislikes it, the, say so.
This page is great, but I feel it lacks the "awesome" feel that the genre has. I say it needs a page image! I personally think this, this, or this would suffice. Though other suggestions would be great.
