I removed this from the main page as I was unsure whether this was an example or not, due to the natter present.
- Yu Yu Hakusho's manga initially started out with Yusuke being a Spirit Detective to solve cases relating to helping spirits to their final rest, with some, but not much, fighting (and mostly mundane battles between Delinquents at that). The fighting became the main focus of the manga after the arc where Yusuke fights in a tournament to become Genkai's disciple. According to Word of God, this tumor was planned from the start.
- Don't really know if this fits, considering that the tourney arcs is when the series grew REALLY awesome, and that the most interesting antagonists are introduced through them.
- This may actually be Growing the Beard.
- Nothing in the description implies those are mutually exclusive.
