"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis trope is generally seen as a bad thing, right?
Trans rights are human rights. If you don't think that, please leave. When the Nostalgia Chick reviewed Dragonheart, she pointed out that the love interest was really not essential to the storyline, and that she could be taken out of the movie without it losing much. She pointed out that this happened a lot in movies, and termed it 'Linets: Love Interest Non Essential To Story".
This trope appears to be the villain equivalent. I'm not sure if 'Villain Who Doesn't Do Anything' is the right name for it, since some of the villains in the examples DO actually do stuff — it's just that very little of what they do actually has any bearing on the plot. If you can imagine the movie without these characters, then they fit this trope. But I'm not sure it's accurate to say they don't do anything.
