So there seems to be a few variations on this progression, which have the first four bars in common with the canon-ical version, but do something else with the last four. Some of the more common ones are:

I-V-vi-iii-IV-V-I-V

  • Oasis - "Whatever", "Don't Look Back in Anger"
  • Alfred J Kwak theme
  • One of the Lemmings songs
  • Argent (covered by KISS) - "God Gave Rock and Roll to You"

I-V-vi-iii-IV-I-V


Any thoughts on what to do with these? I'm thinking either a soft split, or tweaking the description to note that it's the I-V-vi-iii that defines the trope, and that the remainder is flexible.
