Perhaps let's change the trope picture to something else? (Jesus might be offencive to christians like me).
Hide / Show RepliesIt was chosen in this Image Pickin' thread. Feel free to start a new thread saying that it could be offensive, as being chosen by a past thread doesn't guarrantee an image immunity. Personally, I really like the Darth Vader suggestion from the old thread, so you could ask if that would be an okay replacement.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I'm a Christian and I think it's hilarious. Jesus had a sense of humor too, you know.
It also is actually in character; it's an image of when Jesus was chasing out marketers from the Temple and overturning tables and such. Rightous anger and all that.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Righteous anger is out of character for Jesus even if it's canon. "Ultimate nice guy not being nice" is a pretty good image for OOCM I think.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Just note that he was angry for a reason.
Which was why I'm suggesting to move the example to O.O.C. Is Serious Business, due to the background towards it (Wikipedia doesn't give enough info in this case).
I think the link under the image should give specific reference to the painting (tapestry?) it's from. It's kind of context-less.
Looking at the last time this was addressed, Ima probably have to reverse-google it when I get home.
- In a season 7 episode of Supernatural, Castiel talks about a tablet written down by Metatron the Arch-Angel, whom Sam gets confused for Megatron from Transformers. This is the kind of humorous mistakes one would expect from the brother that didn't go to college.
This just got pulled. I'd say any way you cut it, Sam not recognizing Metatron is really out of character, given he is pretty well-educated both in mundane and fantastic terms.
Seriously, they've fought Lucifer and Michael. You'd think Sam would've looked up the third to fifth most famous Angel.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Under Western Animation/My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, we currently have this:
In Western Animation//My Little Pony Equestria Girls, Twilight suddenly goes ga-ga every time she bumps into Brad. Throughout the three seasons of the series, she has never shown any interest in romance - making it seem a little odd that she'd even have a temporary love interest. Part of the reason some feel she's out of character is also because Brad never receives any development to show what makes him so special.
This is utter nonsense. I suspect that it was written by a troper who never even saw Equestria Girls, because there is no Brad in the movie. The character being described here is named Flash Sentry, and Twilight does not "go ga-ga" over him. When she (literally) bumps into him, she smiles and blushes. That's it. If anything, she seems embarrassed by his interest in her, and when he's not right in front of her, she forgets about him. She's focused entirely on her mission, and Flash is, at most, a minor distraction. There's no out-of-character behavior here at all.
My impulse is to just delete this "example," but I'll wait to see if anyone objects.
Hide / Show RepliesIf there's no character named Brad? Yeah, that should be pulled right away.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I'm not good at editing pages so please add this example for me. In the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the mission "Deconstruction" has Carl massacrating the workers at the building site, burning down everything and burying the foreman alive in a toilet cabin under five feet of cement, only because the workers called his sister "hooker". While the player can control Carl and do worse than this for no reason to hundreds and hundreds of civilians, in the storyline, his anger is mostly justified by people betraying him. He usually doesn't kill without a proper reason , and even shows remorse when killing some of them ( Ryder, Big Smoke, Toreno's decoy). Many people insult him and his family on a daily basis and he doesn't move a finger, yet his behavior in "Deconstruction" is completely insane and cruel.
Romanian student with leukemia. Casual troper prone to long Wiki Walks.Should the trope picture actually have an example? I recognize that it's Jesus about to hit someone, but don't know who or why. It just seems a little counter-intuitive.
Hide / Show RepliesThat's why it's an excellent pick for the "out of character moment" - it goes very much against a modern audience's expectations of Jesus, even though it is scriptural.
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.” -Philip K. DickI actually want to move the Jesus example to O.O.C. Is Serious Business, since I think it fits there more than here (he was angry at the merchants for a reason: According to my study bible, he was angry at the merchants since they were making it very difficult for the Gentiles to worship (the marketplace was set up in the Court of the Gentiles, making it quite crowded). In addition, it also says that the merchants were selling their goods at a ridiculously high price, thus are actually ripping off the gentiles who come a long way to worship God (Mathiew 21:13 supports this part, with Jesus mentioning that they're turning the temple into a "den of thieves") ).
If others agree with me here, I'll move it and then do a Image Pickin thread to ask for another picture.
And BTW, I did eventually realized that not all of the mentioning of the bible on TV Tropes are offensive. :P
Edited by 70.33.253.43Given that this is in the first episode, I would rather say that this is Characterization Marches On on Pikachu's part, and an Establishing Character Moment on Ash's.
Ketchum's corollary to Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced tactic is indistinguishable from blind luck.
Rick Sanchez once acknowledged one of his one out of character moments.
