wow, too many instances of Its Pronounced Tro PAY, especially when talking about cities. I thought the point of this was normal pronunciation with crazy spelling instead of spelled the same but pronounced differently.

I'm not sure FLCL belongs here. "F L C L" is actually pronounced "Fu Li Ku Li" in Japanese. It's (most likely) not intentional just for the sake of "being special", which this trope is about, but rather just the way Japanese is pronounced. A consonant is always followed by a vowel in Japanese so F, L, or C never exist on their own, which leads to the "fooly-cooly" pronunciation.
Misspellings on birth certificates used to be included here, right? Or is that a different Trope now? Earl Hickey got his name from such an error—he was to be named "Carl", for his dad, but his father's poor penmanship made the 'c' look like an 'e'.
