My friend Chris and I were discussing the other day who should be cast as who in a theoretical Mistborn movie. In the real world, I put Nathan Fillion as Kelsier, Hugo Weaving as Sazed, and Johnny Depp as Marsh (mostly because I think he could play both sides of the human to inquisitor conversion well).

Indulging in a bit of casting time machine fancy, I'd also consider early 80's Harrison Ford for Kelsier and late 90's Winona Ryder as Vin. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Strangely enough, I imagine Jim Carrey as Kelsier. Hear me out. The traits an actor playing Kelsier would have to have is 1) Be old enough to become a father figure to Vin, 2) Have a sense of humor, and 3) Be an actor who can play an actor(because Kelsier pretends to be many different roles). In particular, after seeing Carrey in Lemony Snicket, I think he would fit the bill.

I don't think it's ridiculous out-of-hand. I've seen Carrey show real emotional range in The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I haven't seen The Majestic or 23. My primary objection is that Carrey seems just far too built for physical comedy. He's tall, skinny, with a face like silly putty. Mistborn certainly don't have to be musclemen, an athletic build does seem relevant.

Oddly, speaking of comic actors, I think I could see a relatively recent Seth Rogan as Ham. Though it's not all there is to him, Ham certainly likes to run his mouth.

How well does it match the trope?
