Does every case of two or more Split Personalities count as this trope?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Hide / Show RepliesNo, this is a very particular case. I am not the author of the page, but this is how I understand it: See, the split personalities is usually more talking about a Grand Theft Me type scenario. I am talking about the concept of that the spirit or alter/personality is taking over, and the host (possessee) is taking a back seat to the action. [Taking one out of control, and putting another in control] In the Many Spirits Inside of One concept, the spirits are often able to interact and fight one another, or at least are very aware that the other personalities exist. [More like putting more cats in the sack] Also, this states that the "Many Spirits" are usually evil and working against the host.
So, in order for a split-personality idea to work in this style, the personalities would: 1) have to be malevolent, & 2) have to be aware of/interactive with the other personas.
Most Split Personalities are more conducive to a Mind Hive Trope.
So Many Spirits Inside of One's personalities/minds/souls/spirits are malevolent or at least opposed to each other, and struggle for dominance over their shared body, while those in a Mind Hive are in relative accord, prefering to diplomatically negotiate with each other whenever there's potential conflict, and generally make their decisions through consensus?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Taking out the Discworld example: it's Split Personality, not this.

So, what is it when you have a benevolent spirit just kind of... hanging around, hitching a ride with you. you can communicate but its not going anywhere anytime soon. This probably belongs in YNTTW but... *shrugs*
