Why was the page renamed? A poll with nine votes? Many entries below refer to the original name, and the references become meaningless with the new one.
The archiving doesn't seem to have worked for this one's discussion, so:
Ununnilium: Would putting in "Film example: 28 Days Later" be appropriate here?
Red Shoe: Absolutely. The aspect of the hero learning bit by bit about the big bad thing isn't really there so much, but movies aren't generally a good medium for that bit of the trope (To much telling, not enough showing). I'm sure there are a bunch of other horror examples, though all I'm pulling up at the moment are bad 50s sci fi horror. Hm. Would the novel Rebecca count?
Ununnilium: That's my point, though; the entry points out that something similar happens in other media, but the bit-by-bit thing is much rarer.
Kimiko Muffin: What is Adam Cadre's theorem?
Red Shoe: Short form: "Abandoned places are popular settings for adventure games, because the come with a built-in atmosphere of mystery and danger, and also because writing NP Cs is hard."
Kimiko Muffin: Kay. Linkplz? (For "long form" if nothing else?)
Mc Martin: It's actually formulated by a Dave L at Brass Lantern: see the introduction at http://brasslantern.org/reviews/text/comp01davel.html for details. The cite is to the author's notes for Photopia (which are full of spoilers, and Photopia is one of the Interactive Fiction games that you Aren't Supposed To Spoil, so the link here is to http://www.adamcadre.ac/if.html for the game itself). The author's notes aren't as formal about it as Dave L is.

Would the events at the near-end of SERENITY be an example of this? Because Mal & co. arrive years after the experiment that created the Reevers. Part of the reason River has been hunted so badly was her knowledge of the planet Miranda, and what happened there with the PAX. His crew arrive to find where everyone just laid down and died, except that 10% of the population that became insanely violent, a recorded message relays the final moments of a previous crew who came to see what had gone wrong and were eaten for their trouble.
