When surrender means death and running is impossible why is a last stand considered heroic? It is just a form of staving death off for a little while longer. Doing it they might show a lot of determination and endurance. But there is no choice and doesn't heroism have to be a form of choice?
What about last stands that end in an overwhelming victory for the defenders instead of the attackers? Like the Battle of Myeongnyang for example.
