> George Lucas took some inspiration from this cross-pollination while writing Star Wars — guess where he got the word "jedi".

Uh... did he actually say this? If you've read the whole Barsoom series, published in the 30s or thereabouts, you'll know it features jeds jedaks and *sith,* making it a kind-of obvious source for the terms. It could be both, I suppose. Jedi fuse characteristics of idealized knights and East Asian monks; jeds are more medieval dukes/knights. The sith of Barsoom is a non-sapient 6-feet-long hornet; very dangerous, would definitely be an aggro mob in a game. It's also very rare, calling to mind, "only 2 there are, master and apprentice." But the East Asian influences in Star Wars are also obvious, it would be silly to deny that 'jidaigeki' was also an inspiration for 'jedi'.

The title at the top of the page as I see it has no space in the name, but in the description it's two words. Is there a reason not to change it? Don't know Japanese language/conventions.

I really don't know much at all about Japanese history at all, but how can Seven Samurai and its anime counterpart Samurai7 be listed in different historical periods?

Also, I've started watching the latter, and while I know a lot of these series aren't that historically accurate, I wonder if it really counts for any historical period (it has fantasy animals and advanced cyborgs).

Notes: - "Jidai geki" just means "historical drama"; it's not specific to one period or another. I would certainly not say that most are in the Meiji period. Most are from the Sengoku or early Edo periods. Why? More drama!

Why isn't there a trope for Japanese-style-based fantasy settings?

I made this Idolized Julius Kingsley icon back when Akito first came out, and now that the crossover is actually happening, I don't care.
