Seem pretty YMMV and Complaining About Strategies You Don't Like, to me. Is this truly necessary?

This is not "kiting". Kiting is what is described in "Fishing for Mooks": You are too weak to take on a large group of enemies, so you draw them away from the main group (drawing aggro) in smaller groups, so basically you look like a kite with a "tail" of enemies following you, hence the name.
