Isn't the Heroic Second Wind actually a sub-trope of the principle that The Winner Always Starts Out Losing in any bad-guy vs good-guy duel, particularly a sword or fist fight? It's always the hero who starts out losing in the final climactic fist-fight, sword-fight or whatever, but in their encounters earlier in the story s/he may (almost always does) start out winning, which is always a bad sign because you know s/he's gonna take a serious beating this time around. Pretty sure there must be an official Trope name for this phenomenon in here somewhere but I haven't found it yet—Heroic Second Wind is as close as I've come.
