Hard Rock should only be used to desribe harder edged blues rock bands, as that's what it is. As an umbrella term, it would include all heavy metal genres, grunge, etc.

Aside from what I've mentioned below (which still stands, IMO- although umbrella terms in a sense are genres unto themselves, even though they may encompass other genres within themselves), there's another issue with this page:
Articles that link from it don't list the Hard Rock index at the bottom. The Death Metal page had the same issue but is now fixed... Just pointing this out.

It seems to me that "Hard Rock" is less a genre unto itself and more of a collection of related genres- after all, pretty much every Hard Rock band can be classified as something else- Blues Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Prog Rock, Glam Rock, Southern Rock, Arena Rock, Power Pop (in a few cases), Proto-Punk and early Heavy Metal. It's still a useful term, but it's not a coherent genre, per se. Thoughts?
