I remember I once read an article in a magazine about two guys who drive around the country on a crusade to correct spelling and grammar mistakes on signs. They once got in trouble for vandalism because they did it to a historic sign. This was several years ago so I have no idea what magazine it was in or when this was.

If Merriam Webster accepts thru as an acceptable alternate spelling of the word "through", then why is it not?

Should this be renamed to Word Crimes, after the Weird Al song? I think it would clarify the topic for those unfamiliar with the term "sic".
