I know its probably way too late for a name change but wouldn't a better name be, I don't know, 'Spell Kata', sort of like Gun Kata. If not, then maybe Full-Contact Magic can be the super trope to the more specific Elemental Punch and Spell Kata (where its not just thrusting out an arm for a hand beam, but a superpower conducted by a specific close-quarters combat form).
Hide / Show RepliesI don't understand your preposition. I mean, I get the first sentence. That's clear enough. It's the second I don't get.
Firstly, Full-Contact Magic isn't really that tied to Elemental Punch; that would be related to Supernatural Martial Arts (pretty sure whoever added that had the two confused). And secondly, I don't really get what you mean by the last bit.

It should be a subtrope of Charles Atlas Superpower if it isnt already. The implication for Supernatural Martial Arts is that if you throw a punch just right you will knock down a target accross the room.
Elemental Punch is an otherwise barehanded move wrapped in fire, water, lightning or some other elemental power. The source of element isn't implied to be the punch itself so it isnt necessarily Supernatural Martial Arts. I was only using Elemental Punch because I wasnt sure if Preternatural Punch was a trope.
I was wrong to suggest Elemental Punch as a Sub-Trope of Full-Contact Magic. It could be for either magic combat tropes.
I still think Spell Kata would be a nice replacement title. Barring that, it could specify when a melee move directing magic or superpowers is part of a larger system of moves, stances, and combos. Most of the examples under full contact magic stretch the definition of the trope.
