Not intending to start a Spell My Name with an "S" argument, but in the anime, the name of the Zodiac family is written in English (when nothing else was translated in the particular one I was watching from Netflix) as Soma, not the Sohma used in the article. Adaptation Decay says the mangaka doesn't like the anime, but is it canon enough to show the correct name?
Explain this bit under Adaptation Decay:
"Then the last episode subverted the formation of the Official Couple and swapped the gender on a certain Bifauxnen, effectively breaking the entire Myth Arc."
The last episode climaxes with Tohru hugging Kyo. Aren't Tohru and Kyo the Official Couple? So how did this subvert that? Are you saying that they starting dating too soon compared to the manga? But that doesn't make sense, because they don't start dating in the last episode. There's a subtext of love just like there is in the manga, but that's it.
And how exactly does the last episode swap the gender of Akito? Sure, it's implied that Akito is male, but the manga implied that too! That's why it's a big reveal when we find out otherwise. It's not as if the last episode has Akito taking off his shirt or anything.
And how does any of this break the Myth Arc?
How has Ren abused Akito?
I mean, it says that she had suffered "horrendous emotional abuse" but their only interaction in the past was when Akira died and Ren told Akki that the Zodiac bonds were false and Akki was all "I'm the chosen one"
No, they've kept interacting on a regular basis in the several years since then. Ren openly hates Akito (and given that she's Akito's mother, that's pretty abusive right there), and she's constantly telling Akito that nobody really loves her and everybody's going to abandon her.
Is it just me or is the character page for this series organized really weirdly? I wouldn't mind reorganizing it myself, but I'd like some input before I do.
Do you, fellow editors, think it would be better to reorganize the tropes under headings (eg "Tohru's Parents" and "Tohru's Friends") into the headings for the list of tropes for the individual characters, OR make new individual folders for those groups? Or, would it be better to group the characters by their families (Sohma, Honda, etc.) or some other way.
I think it's currently pretty good, though I think Akito would fit better in the "Other members folder". I did some smaller changes toward the end: added Naohito Sakuragi under the School Council and moved Komaki Nakao to "Other Characters" since she isn't part of the council. Some of the "Other character tropes" could probably be moved under the named character's entries.
The issue that most got to me is that Akito's entry is really problematic — it's full of spoiler-tagged stuff, and still probably spoils if you try to read it. Dunno how character pages deal with spoilers, but that entry definitely needs work.
I just shifted some stuff around: Tohru, Yuki and Kyou now appear first in the "main characters" folder, followed by Akito, who had been second. I thought Akii was important enough to be a lead but shouldn't split up the trio. I also cut Shigure's entry from main characters and moved it to the "Sohma Family" folder.
Some of the names are inconsistent on the page: they start as "Honda Tohru, Sohma Yuki" etc, but soon take on the Western forename-surname order. Personally, I'd change them all to the Western style, as that's how they're shown in the English translation of the manga, and the site's in English. But I wanted to check you guys' opinion on which way it should be.
I want to put one of the -dere entries for Isuzu. Mainly for post-Character Development Isuzu for how she treats the few people she trusts. Would you call her a Kuudere? Then again, she has some Tsundere traits of the Type A variety before and after Character Development.
She definitely has more kuudere traits than tsundere. It might suffice to put her as a Broken Bird though...
She can be both a Kuudere and a Broken Bird. I saw Broken Bird under her character sheet entry and it used a definition that belonged under Type A Tsundere. I think that definition should be added to Tsundere and add Kuudere.
I have to be frank: Tohru creeps me out. Just the way she looks seems so... wrong. Is it just me?
Yes, it's just you
Yeah, it's just you. Tohru looks just like she should.
