Okay I am shelving my previous discussion and starting a new one about My Final Edits previous suggestion of absorbing the examples of “fishing being the primary goal” category due to a lack of examples. On top of that I would also like to discuss whether the “non-minigame examples of video game fishing” should also be absorbed into just one all encompassing category. What is everyone’s else opinion?

Does anyone else think this trope could be organized differently? By that I mean instead dividing whether fishing is the primary goal or a non mini game, it could be divided by the end goal or the reason why the player may play the fishing minigame. Instead maybe we could divide by competition(trophy or record breaking), story(sidequest or main plot), survival(money or food), or multiple other reasons(fun).

What I would suggest instead is to merge the first two groups, as the primary-goal category has only three examples. That way, the only categories needed would be the one where it's present as a minigame, and the one where it's simply a gameplay feature.

While that does sound like a good idea, I am not sure if it really solves the issue of the current groups. The main problem is that it is vague on what counts as a minigame and what counts as a gameplay feature. For example in the very first folder it contains two examples neither of which really fits as a minigame. The Finny The Fish And The Seven Waters example could be argued that it could go under fishing being the primary goal group and the Hades example definitely belongs in the non-minigame group. I know I am having trouble whether I should put an example from the Harry Potter video game series in Action-Adventure folder under the minigame or the non-minigame group. However I am fully willing to discuss or vote on which idea people will think works best for this trope.

If you feel an example fits better on a different group than the one it currently is, then move it and explain your action in the edit reason.

Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest, and I'll be busy doing a series of wick-swapping edits in other pages, so you'll have to look for suggestions elsewhere. On the whole, this almost feels like begging for a problem so it can be solved.

All right I’m back after alphabetizing some other trope pages and ready to continue this discussion. First I would like to point that I have made an error in my last post about the examples. Finny The Fish And The Seven Waters definitely belongs in the primary goal group and Hades could be argued that it belongs in the non-minigame folder. Second I am afraid my ability to move around examples is limited since I currently only have a smartphone to work with and won’t have anything else for a little while due to an animal health emergency. Finally I would like to disagree with your assessment that I am looking for a problem to solve as I have not been able to add a single example since May 12th. I have been trying to find out what the difference is between a non-minigame & a minigame. The only criteria I can find is in the group’s titles unlike other trope pages. Does it only count as a minigame if it is a game within a game that has a host? Does it depend upon if it can be accessed anywhere in the game for one and accessed only at certain points for the other? Also from what little I can tell it seems I am not the only one having trouble as I can find no pattern or reason behind the placement of examples. I will admit there has been a time or two when I wanted to give up and just write down an example under both groups for someone else to decide but that is not helpful or constructive. Anyway in conclusion it is my belief that we need to get rid of the groups entirely, add criteria in the page’s description or replace the old groups with new groups. Thank you for reading this post!
