I think it is just a description of the trope, not an example. Someone should write one that is both, however
Does the Superman IV Cinema Snob review count? I don't see the pun anywhere.
Silver2195: I suspect the lack of examples is due to the fact that this is kind of a Forgotten Trope. Note that the name comes from the Turkey City Lexicon. I think we could find plenty of examples by reading old Sci-Fi magazines.
Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information. Hide / Show RepliesIt still needs examples but when it has a page on Wikipedia (which we can steal examples from) I don't feel inclined to cut it.
I do also have one myself.
I know Asimov wrote a few stories like this though I can't remember enough specifics to write examples.
Support stupid freshness, yo.Added examples. There are more on wikipedia. I put it on Punny Stuff and Comedy Tropes. We can also put it into relevant works.
There was an Asimov short story about two astronauts who, for some reason, were stuck out in space together for several years. One of them was an avid punner; the other, completely humourless. The second threatened to kill the first the next time a pun was made, and without his pastime of jokery, the second had to make do with other hobbies, including ammonia ice-carving; all very secretive, and far from the base. Near the end of their sentence, the punner brings the second outside to see his masterpiece: a magnificent statue of a bird, in a cage covered in gold leaf from the repair parts. Needless to say, after seeing ammonia bird in gilded cage, the joker was murdered.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the story, but I'll find the magazine and update the page.
Spider G. Robinson: (http://www.spiderrobinson.com/) Just about everything he ever wrote. Basically the Callahan series is just an excuse for these.. The omen pigeon... From the sub, Lime, to the Reed oculist, etc.
Can someone have pity and explain the header quote? If there's a pun there it's going completely over my head.
