The bigger problem I think, is that the "no demotivational posters" goes to the point that even when the image itself is a good example, it will still be rejected just because it is a demotivator, even if it just comes to cropping out the "offending" words.
But what do I know, I'm responding to a post made four years ago so clearly only two people care.
That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastesHow come captions are a "Tired joke", but a WM Gs about characters being Timelords are still around?
Well actually, i'm not sure people make those anymore. I'm not a very active Troper.
Shouldn't this page be called "Demotivational posters?" Wasn't this whole thing started by Despair.com?
Kinitawowi: Yeah, I probably missed a page (it was probably covered on the forums), but... how come the sudden angry obliterating of these from the wiki?
Hide / Show RepliesAesthetics, I'm guessing. They only very rarely fit the tropes they're supposed to be describing, and even if they do they're incredibly ugly because of the caption format. Re-edited pictures like the one on Double Standard, which is an edit of a Fauxtivational Poster, appear to be fine.
Edited by SomeGuy See you in the discussion pages.Does anyone think that this NO MOTIVATOR thing is getting a bit too much? I mean, someone just took down Foe Yay and Die for Our Ship Video game section simply for being motivators. If you ask me, those were just as good as regualr pics and captions.
As a personal fan of motivators, is this decision done by the admins altogether or what?
Edited by dRoy I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. There are a lot of people who don't visit the forums. I, for one, only visit the forums when there's something I want to complain about—usually, a decision that has been made in the forums.
Also, be more specific. I looked around the forums for awhile and couldn't find the discussion that led up to this.
Edited by spiritsunami Q: What Pokémon is good at treating colds? A: Cyn-Day-Quil®I looked on the forums - 2 page thread at the end of '09 saying how much they didn't like them, one or two other threads of people saying how much they did...and ooh, one thread of someone confused about the nuking, where another person says original forum thread about this was "nuked and deleted a while back".
And also, to support what spirit said just above, isn't the point of these discussion pages to discuss the trope? I understand finer details can be worked out in the forum, but you'd think something along the lines "NO MOAR POSTERS!" would warrant a mention here, so those non-forumgoing tropers that edit this page could pop along and weigh in at least.
There are worse problems to have, and the internet is filled with demotivators (some good...most bad) so if TV Tropes goes without that's cool, but the seemingly arbitrary nature of this mass-purge...is just a little irksome.
Edited by GrimaceI'm not arguing with the decision to remove motivators from images on the rest of the wiki, but doesn't it kind of make sense that we should at least have one on this page (since it would better demonstrate the concept that a random landscape and a caption
Now Bloggier than ever before!
I think it's stupid when one person gets tired of a joke and decides to remove it for everyone else. The internet is basically one gigantic archive to binge, and a lot of people maybe aren't so tired of these, or are only just discovering them. It's stupid to be so elitist and, well, just plain selfish about this sort of thing, which is one of the reasons why I stay away from 4chan.
