I was shocked to see this as the trope of the day on the front page. I’ve literally never seen this trope in a work of fiction, only on lists of racist fantasy in articles warning about the rise of the right wing. I guess it is a trope, but did it really need to be featured on the front page?
Basically this trope is bollocks and exists only in the heads of paranoid right-wing Americans who believe all of Europe is already like this. Needs a note to say "Discredited Trope" or else a note to say "believed in the USA but makes Europeans very pissed off" or something along those lines?
Male, early sixties, Cranky old fart, at least two decades behind. So you have been warned. Functionally illiterate in several languages.I second all of the above. Particularly when at least one of these tracts has been directly attributed to a terrorist massacre in NZ & a few other places. Maybe submit this to the Trope Repair Shop?
The Troping works that attract/promote bigotry thread is already watching this one.

Not to start any crap at this point, but I find it interesting that Tv Tropes does not allow entries on Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder or Stefan Molyneux to exist because their content is (rightly) deemed too divisive and overtly political, yet allows this to be a trope - despite the fact that it's practically non-existent outside ultraconservative or ultranationalist hard-right occidential Christian circles. The Literature section reads like an SPLC watchlist. Though I suppose it exists on the same plane as Greedy Jew and other such fringe-political tropes.
