  • The Human Torches: Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four, and his predecessor from the Golden Age, an android (ironically not actually human) that due to some accident in his manufacture, catches fire when exposed to oxygen.

"An Elemental Shapeshifter is a Shapeshifting character"

These guys remain humanoid while using their powers -they make shapes, but they don't change their own.

(Also the examples shouldn't be in the same example block.)

There's other examples where the character doesn't shapeshift, but let's use this one to set a precedent first, then worry about those.

I don't believe this trope necessarily involves the character to change their actual shape. I believe the term here is used interchangeably with "transforming", but in this instance, the focus is on characters that can change their body into some other material. It often involves a slight change in shape, but I don't think it should be necessary to qualify as the trope. The trope description even mentions that the character might retain their original shape after the change at the end of the first paragraph.

But the Human Torch still doesn't belong on this page, since neither actually change themselves into fire, just set themselves on fire.
