FF 7 - Am I crazy in suggesting that Final Fantasy 7 exhibits numerous Diesel-Punk genre tropes? Rockets, classic automobiles, electricity, automatic weapons... The level of technology does not exceed the 40s-50s era, and the concept of powering everything with Mako seems to be a fantasy spin on the concept. Even Cid's Highwind bears some decidedly Boeing bomber characteristics.
Does anyone else know of some good Dieselpunk comics beyond the ones listed?

I'm pondering if the term Deco Punk shouldn't be incorporated a little more obviously into the page, as that seems to be another commonly used descriptor for this style.
While Jenk's substantial rewrites frequently improve the text, I'm a bit concerned about some of the discarded passages. In particular, this paragraph being dropped bothers me:
- A common point of divergence from our timeline is that The Great Depression never happened, leading to further economic and technological growth and less of the warmongering typical of the inter-war era. World War II may still happen in some Dieselpunk settings, see below.
How do you feel about this change?

When the picture first showed up, I just assumed that permission had been asked from the artist. Now that TV Tropes is being audited I looked the page over for potential problems.
So: did anyone ask for permission? If I don't get a response here, I will ask the artist myself, and if he disapproves, the picture, however nice, will be taken down.

Regarding latest editing activity: I say 1) don't change the structure (adding index tags etc) without discussing it here first, and 2) be strict when adding works.
We want the article to give an idea of what Dieselpunk is, and it won't do that if it is diluted with barely relevant references. I believe that the current list is fine, and there are probably a lot of works that can safely be added. But please don't add film A or book B just because they are popular ones who kinda sorta remind you of the 1940s.
Yes, I know you wouldn't do that. But still, don't.

Inglorious Basterds also keeps getting deleted, and IMHO should stay. While it has no futuristic science or other "traditional" wierd war elements, it is a very contemporary story which is set in the diesel area, with a strong "punk" attitude and an alternate history ending. - Jonny B. IB's connection to Dieselpunk is somewhat tenuous. Few, if any, of the things listed in the article as part of the definition can be found in the film.

Okay, the description claims that Diesel Punk and Two-Fisted Tales are different things. Why then are the Indiana Jones films, the premier examples of Two-Fisted Tales, listed on this page?

I didn't write the original article here (which was quite well done, kudos to whomever did), but IMHO Two-Fisted Tales are (or can be, anyway) a subset of Diesel Punk. Like Steampunk, Diesel Punk is really a broad umbrella under which a lot of related retro-futurist ideas come together. However, YMMV.

DP and TFT differ because it's easy to name works that belong to one of them but not to the other. There is still considerable overlap, and the Indiana Jones film series is an example of works that belong to both subgenres.

Sin City. This keeps getting deleted, but IMHO it should stay as it is heavily dieselpunk.
- It is set somewhere in the diesel age, 30's or 40's (or an alternate modern day that looks very retro).
- It draws heavily on pulp and noir tropes, which are part and parcel of dieselpunk.
- It couldn't be any Darker and Edgier.
- A society obviously plagued by crime and corruption, with unique methods of dealing with it.
- Plenty of punk attitude
- Swastika shurikens?
- Some sort of fantastic science, though it is never showcased. Obviously some sort of procedure unknown to current medicine is keeping That Yellow Bastard alive. (Yellow skin can be chalked up to jaundice, but not that yellow. And yellow blood? A complete transfusion to some sort of copper-based hemoglobin?)
