I added examples from the Mega Man X series. I'm amazed it wasn't listed beforehand, given that it's the most famous example of this trope in the franchise.
Edited by Createch"Support" in Pokemon doesn't mean and has never meant special attackers vs physical attackers. Support mons do things like set up screens, pass healing with wish or boosts with baton pass, clear entry hazards from your side or add them to your opponent's, things like that
Edited by AllAboutTropes232It doesn't make sense to list damage-dealing mage characters as "Support," especially for games and settings where Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards is in effect. Mage characters can sometimes far outstrip warriors in damage output.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." Hide / Show RepliesTotally agreed. Came in here to say that myself. Particularly egregious in Final Fantasy listings, where Black Mage characters, who are typically -only- combat-oriented, are listed under Support.
In addition to the aforementioned point about Black Mages, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep also doesn’t apply because its three protagonists hardly ever fight as a team. For most of the story they have to fend for themselves. A better example would be the few battles in which you have a temporary non-playable companion whom you need the help of in order to do a Combination Attack, like Prince Phillip and Hercules
