From the Warhammer40000 Fanfic recommendations page:
Both by the same author, and both pretty good reads from what I remember of them.
Also, Poker Night is a pretty fun read with a hilarious twist ending.
ta muchly. If these are CC focused fics should they not be moved (or at least copied into) a fanfic recs page for this book series?
Here's my idea of a character list.
imperium of man
cain
valhallans
amberly's crew
rest of imperial guard
astartes
sororitas
everyone else (maybe to be split further)
chaos
other races
Seems legit?
Also, is it possible to make subfolders?
Hide/Show RepliesThat's a "no" on the subfolders, unfortunately.
The overall structure looks good to me. I've tweaked a few of your entries for grammar and fleshed out some of the bios. I'm planning on rereading the series again over the summer, so I should be able to find some more tropes for some of the more noteworthy and regular characters.
We can go as far as to write the thing from Vail's standpoint. The entire thing is filled with footnotes already.
Well, my grammar is really lousy because I am not a native and I do not proofread this, seeing as it's a draft.
Edited by AminatepAnyone think adding a character page might be a good idea?
Hide/Show RepliesMost certainly it would, there's just enough characters to make it interesting, any volunteers?
RE: last set of edits: Wow, that was rude...that's what edit reasons are for, especially when it comes to large moves and culls; if you'd said they were moved in the first place, this wouldn't have happened. Still, some of those need to stay on the main page since they apply to multiple characters; generally speaking, single character-specific tropes belong on character pages while tropes that cover multiple characters are better left on the main page for the sake of not repeating a trope. I'll work on this tonight if/when I get time.
Edited by WillbyrAaaaaaaaand my "This work now has a character page in desperate need of improvement" note in the article is where the frak, exactly?
Effing brilliant. I love it when my information just gets eaten.
Edited by Aminatep(EDIT: This is why I should read the whole discussion before posting.)
That said, good job on creating the new page. It's been needed for a while. I'll see if I can't add a blurb or two for a few of the other characters myself.
Edited by Specialist290I hate to nitpick but: Willbyr, is there a particular reason you're double-bulleting everything?
Hide/Show RepliesIT should be noted the latest Imperial Guard novel 'Dead Men walking' has a continutity nod towards "Caves of ice" on page 84 I believe. With a commisioner there recalling Cains (Heavily redacted) after action report on the battle at S Imia orichlae.
There has to be an explosion trope that covers the scale of the promethium detonation in Caves of Ice. Any ideas on what it might be?
Hide/Show RepliesThere's a line been added under Forgone Conclusion that states Jurgen survives past Cain's death from old age. What is the source of this information, please?
Hide/Show RepliesThat's not correct- Cain specifically mentions that Jurgen's "long gone" by the time he's writing his memoirs. Can't remember what book that's from, either. It was either Last Stand or Traitor's Hand, I think.
Pulling from the old archived discussion:
- In For the Emperor, introducing Jurgen, he says, "Even after all this time I still find myself missing him on occasion." If this is because Jurgen is dead, Cain may well have grief clouding his memory on top of all other possibilities.
- This is peculiar, because Jurgen was still with him in Cain's Last Stand, which takes place after he'd already begun recording these unofficial memoirs. For the Emperor must thus have been recorded quite some time after the events of Cain's Last Stand.
- I believe he began the memoirs after Cain's Last Stand. Vail refers to it as occuring five or six years before the memoirs. But considering the length of their association, it would be surprising if Cain considered a few years "all this time" — so this may just be a Continuity Glitch, and not evidence of Jurgen's death. Just to keep things complex.
- In Caves of Ice, Amberley comments that "this part of the archive appears to have been composed only a matter of months before the thirteenth Black Crusade" — thus, before CLS.
Basically, it's a Continuity Snarl. I personally reconcile it by assuming that Cain was somehow separated from Jurgen for a long period of time without him being dead, although possibly he had been presumed dead.
Edited by Specialist290It's worth noting, though, that from Amberley's comments in...For the Emperor, IIRC (one of the earlier books anyway), it seems that Cain's memoirs aren't written down in anything even resembling chronological order. Our favourite Inquisitor is cherrypicking stories from the Archive, editing them into a readable format (footnotes ahoy!) and publishing them depending on what she feels like at the time. It's entirely possible that what would become For the Emperor may have been one of the last things Cain ever wrote in his long life.
That's exactly what's happening. It's very possible that at the time what would become For the Emperor was written by Cain, Jurgen was dead.
Under Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu, someone mentions that there's an Imperial Guard drinking song about him kicking Khorne in the balls. Er. Where can I find this. Sauce plz.
anyone have any decent fanfics for this series? Trying to find them in The Pit is an exercise in futility due to its crappy search function.
