There can be a concurrent TV Show, but the Christmas Special can't be part of it.
Take the Power Rangers examples: "Alpha's Magical Christmas" counts as a Christmas special because it wasn't aired on the show. Meanwhile, "I'm Dreaming of a White Ranger" is misuse since it's just a Christmas Episode and was aired in the original run.

So, since there are now several "rare" British examples, can that adjective be officially removed?
Could someone who knows more move the Christmas Episodes over to that other page? This page is for Christmas Specials, i.e. there was no concurrent TV show.
