Just wondering: What's the fundamental difference between the two "flavors"? Is it that the target is actively stopping the bullet, or the the bullet can be stopped and redirected rather than merely deflected?

I was wondering whether the scene from Pulp Fiction belongs there; I can't see it but it was a very important scene and this trope sums it up perfectly.
