Shouldn't the Y-Wings in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope be included in this trope? They are decades old by the time of the Battle of Yavin. Similarly, could the T-70 X-Wings in The Force Awakens used by the Resistance be included in this trope, as the Republic was using the more advanced T-85 model at the time?

Nope. There's more advanced tech out there, and those were decades old, but even if they weren't cutting edge, they never went out of service.

It's not like the USAF doesn't use 60 year old planes.

What about the Z-95 Headhunters? If I recall correctly, those were still being used (both in canon and legends) more than 30 years after the Battle of Endor. I think Poe even used one once.

If not, is there a different trope about old tech never losing popularity?

Real Life examples are on Boring, but Practical. That might be fitting there.

... god, I love the Z-95 Headhunter.

Removed the part beginning "This relic field kitchen even managed" from the following:

  • In the Falklands War, the British took a WWII field kitchen truck from the Imperial War Museum and sent it along with the Task Force sent to fight off the Argentines, since there was no modern equivalent that could prepare hot meals in the field. This relic field kitchen even managed to land on East Falkland — which Argentina had already evacuated — before the Parachute Regiment, who had been tasked with retaking it.

Argentina had not already evacuated East Falkland - that's where most of the land battles took place. The parachute regiment, royal marines, guards and ghurkas all had a hand in retaking it. I don't know whether or not the basic premise, that a WWII field kitchen was taken from the Imperial War Museum, is true or not.

Deleted the following because it's not an example. The elephant gun was a modern model, Burt had just stored it in a case with a glass door.

  • In Tremors Burt Gummer breaks a glass case and retrieves an elephant gun to shoot the Graboid that has broken through his basement wall.
