Am I the only person who thinks that this film is really an overrated piece of garbage?

It's like a horrible inversion of synergy - all the actors are brilliant, the director is talented, the ideas are interesting, but the end result is far less than the sum of its parts.

Just finished watching Brazil and it really is a good movie. But, is it just me, or is Sam a Unsympathetic Protagonist? I mean, I realize that living in the world that he does, he's doomed to a horrible, horrible life and any struggle is almost doomed to failure, but he's willing to do a lot of stuff that seems, well, wrong, both ethically and by making his situation even worse.

I have the same problem with Kafka's exceptional The Trial, so maybe it's just me, but I was wondering if anyone else felt the same.

Absolutely. The only place I disagree with you is that I don't think it was a good film at all.

Removed this:

According to the trope page, a Gainax Ending is when the ending is totally different from the rest of the film. This doesn't happen in Brazil. It's creepy and surreal all the way through.

Type the word in the image. This goes away if you get known.
