I think this trope needs to be expanded to include anything that one person considers cool while the rest say it isn't. And it doesn't need to be outdatedness, it could just generally be uncool.
What's the opposite trope — for when a bowtie is specifically used to show how utterly uncool a character is?
I think this might need cleaning up. Seeing as people seem to have ignored the actual trope and decided to just add a buttload of examples that are just about people that wear bowties.
Hide/Show RepliesThere's an issue regarding whether the trope actually refers to just bowties or any outdated fashion that a character/person thinks is cool.
Describe an awesome bowtie you own or have seen.
Personal favorites include a black on with dark-green concentric rings and a blue one with white polka-dots (guess what influenced its purchase).
Hide/Show RepliesNah, he's worn better. That Blue Hermes bowtie he had at The end of The God Complex was bitchin'.
There was a remark here, but it's gone now because I realised it was nothing. (how do you delete this thing?)
Edited by IronyAdamsOne question about this trope, does this refer to when a character wears anything outdated or goofy, or specifically bowties?
Hide/Show RepliesI... don't know. Initially I assumed that it was any peculiar fashion affectation, but that seems to overlap with Outdated Outfit. So right now I'm leaning towards just bowties.
Can anyone point me to the YKTTW where this trope was proposed, if applicable?
What has me confused is the page quote. If it just refers to bowties, than that quote really should be something different.
Took the liberty of adding the Eleventh Doctor picture. It seemed appropriate. :-)
Hide/Show RepliesYes, and it's even fitting for those who DON'T watch Doctor Who, because he is clearly wearing a bowtie.
