I can add that da Hispanic variation of this trope (Latinos who vote Republican Party) may have a explanation: Latinoamerican countries are predominantly Catholic, and there, people are often social conservatives (by an example: In México, where I live, few states had legal abortion until da Supreme Mexican Court decision of da past week that forced all healthcare places to offer it. This because it's a polemic topic in da country). A lot of Latinos in USA are immigrants, and they might have socially conservative values (against abortion, pro-church, anti-Political-Correctness, etc), values that often agree with Republican Politics. Also, Cuban-Americans generally scaped from Cuba because it's a Communist dictature, and Communism is seen as a leftist thing in Latinoamérica, so many Cubans may see da Republican Party as more conservative and "anti-communist" than da Democratic Party.

The experience and history of each race relative to that of Caucasians is unique, so in order for the significance of being a conservative politician who is a member of given minority group to be made clear here, the examples need to be categorized by character race into than two groups, like Wearing a Flag on Your Head or, if you prefer, Our Presidents Are Different.

At the very least, each individual entry needs to specify the meaning behind that particular minority supporting the GOP would be considered weird. Just saying "they're a minority and a Republican" doesn't really provide adequate context given every minority group's relationship with the GOP is very different with different expectations.

Leaving these out leaves the examples as basically People Sit On Chairs.

Up until sometime in the mid-20th-century, African-Americans were the most reliable REPUBLICAN voting bloc in the U.S.: the Republican Party was the Party of Lincoln, the Party that Freed the Slaves, and the Party of Reconstruction, while the Democratic Party was the Party of Slavery and the Klan, and white racism in general.

Then, two things happened: First, the Republican Party dropped the ball. Second, sometime after the New Deal began, the Democratic Party realized that it could no longer style itself the party of the common folk, and yet turn its back on common folk if they didn't have white skin.

That led to a series of Democratic schisms (think "Dixiecrats"), and eventually (after Strom Thurmond jumped parties) to a mass migration of white racists to the Republican Party.

^^ Thank you! Not to mention their respect in relationships with Caucasians. Actually, setting up the racial delineations would take care of most of the explanation without necessitating expounding to the point of their effectively being a whole new set of useful notes pages on the subject.

... not going to lie, that was a really weird history lesson that completely left out the entirety of the Southern Strategy (unless that's what "dropped the ball" means, which is weird since it worked according to plan), but it does demonstrate that the relationship of the African-American community to the Republicans is rather unique.
