"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAn obvious necessity in Gender Bent entertainment.
Would you really enjoy watching a show or reading a comic/story where the gender bent character was not attractive? Do you put yourself into the character to experience the events and picture yourself as attractive or unattractive?
Even the Wayan Brothers comedy White Chicks had them gender bent into attractive females.
With society pushing good looks as so important, specially for females, there is only one comedic situation where an unattractive gender bent main character could be used, the lack of beauty being the source of the comedy.
I was hoping to add an example, and wanted to know if this was properly written before adding it:
- A newer example, as of 2016, is side/background character Shinmei Amu of Active Raid, a popular singing Idol as of the timeframe of the first season, and is revealed, at least to the main characters, as actually a guy. No one was able to tell before hand because of how cute he is. It's unshown, as far as this troper knows, if it's revealed to the populace at large by the time of the second season.
First off, thank you for checking here before adding it. You can also use this thread to double check grammar and wiki syntax if you want people to review edits before they get made.
Secondly, it is not acceptably written. Examples Are Not Recent, This Troper is never allowed, it has a few typos, poor sentence structure, and it's Not An Example (it would go under Sweet on Polly Oliver or Dude Looks Like a Lady, I can't be sure from the context).
A decent writeup would be (for Dude Looks Like a Lady, Sweet on Polly Oliver would require some more context):
- Side/background character Shinmei Amu of Active Raid is a popular singing idol. During the first season, the main characters believed him to be a girl. It is only eventually revealed to the main characters that he is actually a guy. No one was able to tell before hand because of how cute he is.
Ah, thanks for looking it over. I keep forgetting that putting stuff into trope pages has it's own syntax, so I'll definitely look that thread over.
You ever notice men tend to qualify for this trope more when they have big noses?
Satan says you need more color!A propos of nothing, it is possible to squick yourself out with photos of yourself in drag looking cute. And this is not even a sexual attraction thing. It's almost like a form of inverse retrospective body horror.
Edited by natfreThe entire description of this trope is pretty offensive. Is it possible to just establish a policy of putting an Unfortunate Implications disclaimer on all of the sex/gender identity/presentation pages? I really want to, because so much of it is about comedy that is extremely hurtful to transpeople.
TRUCKASAURUS Hide / Show RepliesGo for it. I didn't notice at first the double standards in the description.
Regarding this example: During an episode of Metalocalypse while looking through tribute bands, Dethklok comes across Lady Klok, an all female tribute band. Toki apparently thinks that "Lady Pickles" is cute. Nathan finds his comment creepy...but then admits she does have nice eyes.
It sounds here like "Lady Klok" is just a group of "normal" women, at least the way the sentence is written. If they're TG, the example fits this trope; otherwise, it would be in something like Rule 63 or Gender Flip.

This address links to a NSFW page "for mature audiences only" that you have to log in to see, so I'm plonking it here until someone can figure out how to handle the NSFW link part. I don't have an account, so I can't check to see if that particular link is NSFW and needs a warning, or is SFW and is unfortunately located. That also means I can't find out what the actual title is.
