"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow is the trope description any less offensive than any actual uses of the trope? Because racism is totes okay when it's ironic, right?
Hide / Show RepliesWell, it's intended merely to be self-demonstrating, both as comedy and to show what the trope is (and how ridiculous it is). Because of that, it can only really be as offensive as the fact that the trope exists.
Secondly, I guess "racism is totes okay when it's ironic." Not in the hipster sense of ironic, but in the sense where there is no racism intended or implicit and the usage is to make fun of or describe racism itself, then there's nothing wrong with that.
Thirdly, while I personally agree with you that the trope is racist, I think there are many who would disagree. Regardless, I'm sorry if the article offended you in any way.

The trope of giving Asians "funny" accents is alive and well in present-day works, so why are we trying to pretend otherwise? Who are we trying to kid?
Edited by Mercy Hide / Show RepliesIt's definitely discredited, but you're right that it's certainly still in use in many works. Feel free to tweak or add to that line, if you'd like to make it clearer.

Talk about badly aged tropes, am I right?
