Dracula was first published in 1897, some twenty or so years before the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and the killing of the Romanov family during the Russian Revolution, so this troper suggests that the following quote by Dracula, "Ah, young sir, the Szekelys—and the Draculas as their heart's blood, their brains, and their swords—can boast a record that mushroom growths like the Habsburgs and the Romanovs can never reach..." might be Hilarious in Hindsight.
I've looked hard and long for the quote "Dr. Van Helsing rushed into the room, ejaculating furiously" mentionned for the Have a Gay Old Time trope but can't find no trace of it. I do wonder where it comes from. Any idea?
However, this one is easy to spot and is even better: "He removed the flowers and lifted the silk handkerchief from her throat. As he did so he started back, and I could hear his ejaculation, “Mein Gott!” as it was smothered in his throat. I bent over and looked, too, and as I noticed some queer chill came over me."
