Didn't want to edit the page, without having tropes to reference to, but wanted to write something down about the section "they stole our jobs!". The main thing I saw that was discussed was how nonsensical the concept was for people to discriminate and try to intimidate androids the way they do in DBH, When in-universe humans can't even conceive the idea of androids having sentience in the first place - yeah people get angry at technology but why are people considering pulling a knife or something on the Roomba. While I initially agree with this, as someone whose not POC, and doesn't really have the knowledge to know how offensive someone who is POC would find the analogy for past/present-day racism in DBH. I can see how the scene in DBH for example where the androids are at the back of the bus would be seen as quite on the nose.
My interpretation explaining why the protesters for example acted the way they did to Markus even though they consider him to be basically be a toaster has to do with DBH's Androids/robots passing the turning test. As I think most people know (I learn what this was like day ago, so correct me if I get this wrong) the turning test, tests an AI ability to convince a human thats it's human as well. So while humans in DBH don't consider Androids intelligent, clearly from an aesthetic point-of-view tricks people up, for example in the first part of the game, it takes a moment for the hostages' mother to realise that Connor is in fact an android by his uniform.
Have you ever tried to hit back a piece furniture after stubbing your toe on it? (No just me?) Well going back to the Roomba metaphor what happens when that Roomba looks like a human. The difference between the roomba and Markus to the protestors is that unlike the Roomba, Markus can keel over in shock or be knocked down like a human. So while it's ridiculous for people to try and search for sense of humiliation out of what they consider machinery in the first place, that machinery has human face that's easier to project hate onto.
So while I really like the topic about the androids in DBH having sentience being no different to humans with sentience,DBH intentionally uses analogy about past/modern day racism to further plot which is kinda on the nose, especially when I'm pretty sure most of the androids were white.
Sorry this became a ramble but what hopefully what I wrote made senses to others. It's like 4 in morning.
